President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening democracy and maintaining its reputation as a leading example of democratic governance in Africa.
Speaking during activities marking Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary, the President emphasized that the country must continue to uphold the values that have earned it global respect as a stable democratic nation. He noted that Ghana’s democratic journey has been built through collective effort, sacrifice, and a shared commitment to peace and unity.
According to Mahama, Ghana’s ability to maintain political stability over the years demonstrates the maturity of its democratic institutions and the resilience of its people. He highlighted that the country’s political culture, which encourages competition without hostility, has played a key role in preserving national unity and strengthening governance.
The President urged citizens to remain committed to the ideals that have guided Ghana since independence. He stressed that democracy can only thrive when citizens actively participate in governance and uphold the rule of law. He also encouraged Ghanaians to work together to safeguard the nation’s democratic gains and ensure sustainable development.
Mahama further pointed out that as Ghana approaches its 70th Independence Anniversary next year, the country must renew its commitment to progress, integrity, and national unity. He said the milestone offers an opportunity for reflection and renewed determination to build a stronger nation.
He added that the government remains focused on promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusive growth to improve the lives of Ghanaians. According to him, national progress cannot be achieved by government alone, but requires the collective effort of all citizens, institutions, and stakeholders.
The President concluded by expressing confidence in Ghana’s future, stating that with unity, discipline, and dedication, the country will continue to lead by example on the African continent and beyond.
